The hospital has had full time pediatricians only for the past year, and the pediatrics program is rapidly developing. There is a 26-bed pediatrics ward which includes a six-bed pediatric oncology unit. Infectious diseases represent the majority of admissions, especially HIV disease, tuberculosis, malaria, pneumonia, and meningitis. A program for the treatment of Burkitt’s lymphoma has been developed in conjunction with Stellenbosch University in South Africa. Treatment is offered for other pediatric cancers as well. A newly expanded neonatal intensive care unit has been developed.
